Brownfields legislation introduced in Congress

The Water Access Alliance supports the introduction of legislation earlier this year to provide federal grants for the revitalization of waterfront brownfields.

HR 5469, introduced by Rep. Louise Slaughter, D-N.Y., amends the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (commonly known as the “Superfund” Act). The bill creates grants for reuse planning, site characterization and assessment, and remediation of waterfront brownfield sites, including the development of water-based recreational opportunities.

HR 5469 has 31 cosponsors. The Alliance continues to urge Congress to pass this legislation before the end of the 110th Congress.
