Coastwatch on North Carolina Now — a partnership between North Carolina Sea Grant and UNC-TV — has earned an Award of Excellence from the national Awards for Communications Excellence competition, known as APEX.
The honor was in the category of “Special Purpose Electronic and Video Productions.” The award-winning series provides coastal feature stories from Sea Grant’s flagship magazine and UNC-TV’s weekly public affairs programs to be used in classrooms across the state.
“This series not only brings important lessons for the students, but also provides timely information for wider audiences of the magazine, television program and the Web,” said Michael Voiland, North Carolina Sea Grant executive director, in a statement.
“Staff members at NC Sea Grant have worked closely with UNC-TV so that we can bring to viewers, teachers and online users the latest research on coastal issues," said Shannon Vickery, UNC-TV’s executive producer for content, in a statement. "Combining the expertise of NC Sea Grant and UNC-TV has resulted in a series of stories that educate and enlighten viewers across North Carolina.”
