Geralyn “Gerry” Mulcahy, longtime manager for several NMMA shows — most recently the Kansas City and Des Moines Sportshows — died last weekend following an accident at a Missouri race track. She was 47.
An industry veteran, Mulcahy would have celebrated her 20th anniversary with NMMA next month.
She began her career at the NMMA in 1988 as sales manager for the St. Louis and Nashville boat shows, and was promoted to show manager for the Nashville show. She later became manager of the Kansas City and Des Moines Sportshows.
“I knew Gerry as a co-worker, partner, best friend, daughter, wife and mother,” said Mark Adams, vice president of NMMA Sportshows, who recruited Mulcahy to the NMMA. “She excelled at all of these tasks. She was truly the best of the best.”
“Gerry was loved by everyone she met. She touched so many with her warmth, energy and enthusiasm,” said NMMA president Thom Dammrich. “In her management of several NMMA shows, her exhibitors and colleagues held her in high regard, and many knew her for her sense of humor, drive, compassion and the kindness she showed to everyone. She will be remembered as one of those quietly competent people who always got the job done. Her sudden and unexpected passing is a devastating loss and shock to us all. She will be greatly missed.”
Mulcahy is survived by her husband, Clete, and children Natalie,17, and Austin, 14. Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Baue Funeral home in O’Fallon, Mo. Funeral services are from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Friday at St. Paul Church in St. Paul, Mo.
The family requests that memorial donations be sent to the American Cancer Society.
