McMurdo gains approval for AIS device

McMurdo, an Orolia Group business, recently received type approval for its innovative Smartfind S10 Automatic Identification System Beacon, making it available for sale throughout the United States.

The type approval from the Federal Communications Commission means the S10 is now issued with a Grant of Authorization certificate, approving it for use in this country.

“The Smartfind S10 offers a major advance in [man-overboard] systems, recognizing that the key to a successful recovery is the speed in which the mother vessel can be made aware of the casualty in the water. It is already making a real difference to the personal safety of mariners around the world, and with this FCC certification we are delighted that consumers in the United States will now also be able to benefit from this pioneering must-have personal safety beacon,” global sales director Ross Wilkinson said in a statement.
