Students take tour of R.I. composites manufacturer

Rhode Island is opening the doors of its composites manufacturers to high school students.

This week, students from Newport County high schools got a firsthand look at one of the state’s manufacturing sectors and the training opportunities that can lead to careers in composites technology.

A joint endeavor between the Rhode Island Marine Trades Association and the Newport County Mentor/Co-Op Group helped about 30 students travel to Bristol. The students toured the International Yacht Restoration School and the Clear Carbon & Components business.

“It’s great to see so many young people from Rhode Island who have an interest in learning about this exciting industry located right in their back yard,” IYRS admissions associate Holly Ashton said.

Students will get another chance to tour the businesses in June.
