Safety seminar held in Rhode Island

Brian Kane, director of research and development for marine security and tracking products supplier Global Ocean Security Technologies, was a featured speaker at the recent Offshore Search, Rescue & Safety Seminar at the Newport (R.I.) Shipyard.

The May 31 event, sponsored by Chartis, Triton Insurance and the shipyard, was attended by New England area boat crews, vessel captains, marine insurance representatives and yacht management professionals.

Kane gave the group an overview of the latest yacht safety, security, tracking, monitoring, video surveillance, acoustic deterrent and cloaking technologies.

“Unfortunately, we live in a world where protecting lives and property at sea or at the dock is more challenging than ever. It’s important for all segments of the marine industry involved in asset management to be aware of the defensive products and monitoring services available,” he said in a statement.

The seminar also featured the Coast Guard Safety & Rescue Team performing a rescue-at-sea demonstration with an MH-60T helicopter.
