Alabama boatbuilder gains overseas contract

Alabama-based Silver Ships received a contract to build two oil spill service boats for Saudi Aramco to operate at its waterborne facilities in Saudi Arabia.

Each of the boats is a 48-by-16-foot bowloader with an air-conditioned pilothouse, push knees and all-welded aluminum construction, according to Silver Ships.

The propulsion package will include twin Cummins QSB5.9 inboard diesel engines at 350 hp each.

Oil spill equipment includes an Elastec hydraulically controlled powered boom reel, an Elaspray portable dispersant system, a 200-gallon dispersant tank, an Elastec TDS118 Skimmer System and an Elastec 500-gallon pillow tank.

Silver Ships is active in the international oil spill service boat construction market. It has provided the military and municipalities, as well as commercial users, with work and patrol vessels for more than 27 years.
