Morris Yachts sponsors sail festival in Maine

Morris Yachts is sponsoring the Junior Olympic Sailing Festival in Northeast Harbor, Maine.

"We are proud to support this nationwide series of youth regattas in Northeast Harbor," Morris Yachts CEO Doug Metchick said in a statement. "We wish these young sailors all the best and are looking forward to seeing them out on the water racing"

The event began Thursday and is being held just around the corner from Morris Yachts' service boatyard in Northeast Harbor.

Morris is sponsoring a shaded refreshment lounge for spectators and providing day sails on board its Modern Classics to help people get out on the water and closer to the action. Morris also is providing reusable water bottles for each competitor and supporting the regatta organizer's efforts to maintain a green regatta.

US Sailing’s Junior Olympic Sailing Program is a nationwide series of regattas for youths ages 8 to 21. Events mix Olympic-style competition with elements of learning and fun for all levels, from beginning racers to those with Olympic aspirations.

Thirty events are planned this year in the continental United States and Hawaii and more than 4,500 sailors are expected to participate.
