This roundup of upcoming shows and events includes news from the Michigan City In-Water Boat Show and the South Lake Union Boats Afloat Show in Seattle.

One of the largest and longest-running boat shows on the Great Lakes will return Aug. 23-26 when the Progressive Insurance Michigan City In-Water Boat Show is held at Washington Park in Michigan City, Ind.

The 33rd annual event will feature new and used powerboats, sailboats and accessories from more than 50 exhibitors.

“The southern shore of Lake Michigan is a great spot for the boat show because it supports such a wide variety of on-the-water activities,” show manager Ken Alvey said in a statement.

Big boats have sold well at the show in recent years, and the 2012 event will include several models larger than 40 feet, Alvey says. Leading the way will be the Sea Ray 540 Sundancer, displayed by Michigan City’s B&E Marine.

For the first time in show history, visitors who purchase boats at the event will be offered free dockage for the remainder of the summer at the Michigan City Port Authority’s Washington Park Marina.

The show is open from noon to 8 p.m. Aug. 23 and 24, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 25, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 26.

Admission is $10 for adults; children 12 and younger get in free, and all LaPorte County residents receive free admission on opening day. Further information is available by visiting the show website.

Organizers say more than 50 brands of yachts and 50 brokers and dealers from Washington, Oregon, California, Florida and British Columbia will be at the South Lake Union Boats Afloat Show, which is scheduled for Sept. 12-16 in Seattle.

The largest boat at the show will be a 90-foot Queenship motoryacht, but organizers say there also will be dozens of sportboats from 18 to 30 feet for wakeboard and water sports enthusiasts from builders such as Cobalt, Malibu and Chaparral.

Attractions will include free sailboat rides each day. There will be toy boatbuilding and free children’s sailing lessons Sept. 15 and 16.

Show hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on the show’s weekdays and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekend days. Tickets are $12 for adults and $5 for children ages 12 to 17; children under 11 are admitted free. Weekday admission is $6 from 5 to 7 p.m., and a multiday pass is $18.
