Baja Marine ramps up production in North Carolina

Baja Marine resumed the production of new boats and is offering a new service program for customers' existing boats at its Washington, N.C., plant.

The company announced that it will reintroduce three popular offshore models for 2013: the Baja 278 Performance, 30 Outlaw and 35 Outlaw, with new graphics and a full range of Mercury power options. Baja's boat line also includes the 23 and 26 Outlaw, 247 and 277 Islander models.

An appointed receiver put Baja into Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last winter, but a judge ruled that the receiver did not have the authority to do so, Baja Marine CEO Johnny Walker said in a statement.

Baja Marine “went back to the people at Liberty,” Walker said in the statement.

“While Baja currently has no affiliation with the former sister brands [Donzi, Pro-Line and Fountain], we are in discussion to work with those brands in the near future,” Walker said. “We hope to have more to say about that in the months to come.”

Baja now has very little debt and adequate working capital for current times and future business, Walker said in the statement.

"Baja is back in production after a few months' shutdown," Walker said. "Our customers have been demanding bigger, faster boats with new custom graphics no one has seen before, and that’s what we’re giving them for the new model year. Baja's Elite Service department also is open for business, tuning and restoring customers' existing performance boats from bow to stern, regardless of their brand."

Baja Marine Elite Service also offers repowering, paint, upholstery, setup and a wide range of other services for performance boats.

Baja has booked exhibit space for October’s Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show.
