IBEX 2012 VIDEO: Interview with MRAA president Matt Gruhn

Some boat dealers seem to be enjoying record sales this year, so it was a happy Matt Gruhn who sat down Tuesday for an interview with Trade Only editor-in-chief Bill Sisson on the opening day of the International BoatBuilders’ Exhibition and Conference in Louisville, Ky.

The president of the Marine Retailers Association of the Americas told Sisson that new-boat sales are expected to be up about 10 percent from 2011.

He said the industry has 30 to 35 percent fewer dealers than before the recession, but as a group they’re doing more business and have become healthier and more stable.

Gruhn also said efforts dealers made during the recession to boost business in used boats, service, and parts and accessories are adding to their profits as new-boat sales rebound.
