Herreshoff museum gains planning grant

The Herreshoff Marine Museum and America's Cup Hall of Fame received a $10,000 grant from The Rhode Island Foundation to support its strategic plan development.

The Bristol, R.I.-based museum said it is working with a consulting company to lead its board and staff through the planning process.

“We are very pleased that the Rhode Island Foundation is supporting our effort to develop a visionary, comprehensive five-year plan that will enable us to realize our significant potential, given the wealth of assets we have at our disposal,” museum board chairman David Ford said in a statement. “We look forward to working with our members, supporters and the local community to help determine and secure the future of the museum.”

The museum is dedicated to the education and inspiration of the public through presentations of the history and innovative work of the Herreshoff Manufacturing Co. and the America’s Cup competition.

The foundation, whose offices are in Providence, is one of the oldest and largest community foundations in the United States and is the largest and most comprehensive funder of nonprofit organizations in Rhode Island.
