Industry mourns Florida marine author

Capt. Bob Armstrong, an industry stalwart who turned his passion for boating into a diverse career, died Nov. 3 at the age of 75 at his Miami home.

The Maine native, who was an avid sailor and angler as a boy, followed a career trajectory that included running a summer resort hotel, TV production, private yacht and charter boat captain, marine surveyor and marine author.

Non-fiction books he wrote included “Getting Started in Powerboating” and “Your First Powerboat,” and his articles have appeared in national and regional boating magazines, including the annual “Florida Cruising Directory,” which he served as editor for more than 15 years.
