ICOMIA releases annual market data report

The newly released annual statistics book from the International Council of Marine Industry Associations includes market data from China for the first time.

ICOMIA said it has 35 marine industry association members that are estimated to represent more than 90 percent of the global boating business, making it well-positioned to provide an international compilation of data covering the industry’s varied segments.

In addition to statistics collected from member associations in standard format for cross-reference and comparison, the book includes trend line graphs showing boat production, outboard engine, PWC and diesel engine sales during the last eight years for Finland, Japan, New Zealand and the United States — data provided by ICOMIA’s Marine Engine Committee.

In addition, the statistics book offers detailed national reports on the industry’s largest market countries and statistics on the superyacht order book, courtesy of ShowBoats International/Boat International Media.

The statistics are based on 2011 data, but they also show the results of a 2012 survey summarizing mid-year market trends across 23 responding countries.

“The ICOMIA Statistics Book offers a unique insight into the worldwide recreational boating industry,” ICOMIA secretary general Tony Rice said in a statement. “Over the years ICOMIA has continued to improve the process of gathering statistics in a fragmented and diversified industry that mainly is composed of small companies; the resulting information is used extensively within the industry and as a reference by those on the fringe, interested in investing or needing to work with the sector.”
