Northeast boat sales increase after hurricane

A CBS News report this weekend interviewed industry insiders, who detailed how the devastation wrought by Hurricane Sandy has actually provided a sales boost.

"Best December we've ever had," Boston Whaler vice president of sales Jeff Vaughn said in the television interview.

Since an estimated $650 million is being written by insurance companies to boat owners, many of whom still want to get back on the water, an unexpected injection of cash is helping manufacturers and creating new jobs — both in selling new boat and repairing broken ones, said Vaughn.

NMMA president Thom Dammrich and Scott Croft of BoatUS also contribute to the report, which was conducted at the New York Boat Show that wrapped Sunday.

Once the infrastructure and houses are rebuilt is when we'll really see a sales bump.

You are right but for all the wrong reasons. This is a non-story. Storm hits..100 boats destroyed...10 owners decide to purchase new toys..Guess what? Boat sales go up. Nuf said.

I hope for the dealers in the area this is correct. When the networks plug it then I question the validity of any story.
