IYRS open house set for today

IYRS will hold a marine systems and composites technology open house this afternoon at the school’s campus in Bristol, R.I.

The event, which takes place from 4-6:30 p.m., will give career seekers an opportunity to meet with IYRS staff, observe students at work and review the IYRS programs.

The Bristol facility is home to the school’s marine systems and composites technology programs.

The composites technology program trains students in the theory and hands-on practice of working with composite materials, a method of construction that represents the next generation of building materials in many industries — including aerospace, construction, boatbuilding, automotive and wind energy.

The marine systems program teaches students to install, maintain and troubleshoot the onboard systems used on modern and classic boats. Both programs are six months long, beginning in March and September.
