NMMA reports recent show attendance numbers

Three National Marine Manufacturers Association boat shows closed Sunday with mixed results partially as a result of a winter snowstorm.

The Progressive Insurance Los Angeles Boat Show, one of the NMMA’s newest additions, resulting from the integration with the Southern California Marine Association, reported a 64 percent increase in visitors compared with 2012, according to NMMA spokeswoman Sarah Ryser.

The four-day show, which added an in-water yacht and brokerage location in Marina del Rey, attracted 11,785 people. Initial feedback from exhibitors is similar to what organizers across the country have been hearing in 2013 — many boats were sold in all categories and solid leads were generated, Ryser said in an email.

The Progressive Insurance Atlantic City Boat Show was up against a winter snowstorm, which deterred Saturday visitors. Despite the storm, attendance was steady and there were 32,175 visitors, down 11 percent from 2012.

The Progressive Insurance St. Louis Boat & Sportshow was off 1 percent from 2012 with 29,237 attendees. The show expanded into a new hall and organizers heard positive news from several exhibitors about stronger sales and quality leads, according to the NMMA.

In addition to the Progressive Insurance Miami International Boat Show, which opens today, the NMMA is planning the Progressive Insurance New England Boat Show, which starts Saturday and will run through Feb. 24, and the Progressive Insurance Baltimore Boat Show, which takes place Feb. 28-March 3.
