Jeppesen joins with FarSounder on chart data promotion

Jeppesen and FarSounder announced a joint promotion for the FarSounder-500 and FarSounder-1000 sonar systems in which Jeppesen will provide a three-month trial of the latest Jeppesen charts for key regions of the customers' travel areas.

The promotion will run through March 1, 2014.

FarSounder's software uses Jeppesen charts as part of its 3-D forward looking sonar's chart overlay feature.

"We are excited to be partnering with FarSounder to offer our customers the best in both sonar navigation technology and digital chart data,” Jeppesen commercial marketing manager Gunn-Lisbet Opshaug said in a statement.

FarSounder has been selling its flagship navigation and obstacle avoidance systems since 2004. The chart overlay is produced by correlating the sonar's data to a geo-spatial position and displaying information from the sonar data on top of Jeppesen's digital charts.

"We welcome this opportunity to strengthen our partnership with Jeppesen, one of the leading global providers of digital vector chart data," FarSounder vice president of engineering Matthew Zimmerman said in a statement. "Chart overlay is a valuable feature which aids operator comprehension and enables users to more quickly see where potential navigation obstacles are located."
