The high price of fuel this summer may have changed some boating habits, but it didn’t stop people from going boating altogether, according to a survey released by the National Marine Manufacturers Association.

Fountain Powerboat Industries recently laid off 70 workers at its Washington, N.C., plant, but chairman and CEO Reggie Fountain says he believes the layoffs will be temporary.
