Finnish boatbuilder Axopar Group has acquired a majority shareholding in Markos Sp. z.o.o., an OEM supplier to Axopar based in Slupsk, Poland. The vendor will be part of the newly formed subsidiary AX Composites Ltd.

Markos builds composite components for myriad industries including energy, marine and leisure. The company specializes in fiberglass reinforced composite products and has more than 30 years of experience in component design and fabrication. Last year, it had net sales of more than $77.2 million and employed more than 1,200 people.

The investment is part of a growth strategy for Axopar.

“We promised that our 10th anniversary year would be full of surprises,” Jan-Erik Vitala, founding partner at Axopar, said in a statement. “The investment in Markos stands as one of the most significant announcements during this milestone year. A strategic expansion of this kind is more than just an investment; it is a testament to our commitment to constantly taking steps forward, innovating and growing.”

Axopar said there will not be any changes to Markos’ current business and relations, and that Markos will continue to serve its customers including other boat brands. Szymon Koseski will continue as CEO of Markos and Cesary Koseski will be an advisor for Markos’ supervisory board.

The company Gebr. Fassmer AG has been a minority owner of Markos since 2001 and will continue as a shareholder.
