A marina that has operated for a half-century in Gravesend, N.Y., a Brooklyn neighborhood, is scheduled to close April 1. More than 200 boat owners rent slips at Marine Basin Marina and will have to find new home ports.
“It’s a hectic situation,” Capt. Max, who runs Cruise NY, which gives private tours of New York Harbor, told BrooklynPaper.com. “It’s short notice.”
The Gagliano family, which has owned and operated Marine Basin Marina more than 50 years, reportedly sold the marina and adjacent properties in January to a real estate firm for $57.5 million.
“I found out a couple weeks ago, and I’ve got to get out by April 1st,” said a boat owner at the marina.
Boaters have called the marina’s closure a “loss for Brooklyn,” which has few marinas.
