Bombardier Recreational Products last week laid off 148 employees at its Sturtevant, Wis., facility, two months after releasing 150 workers in March, according to published reports. The company also laid off 106 employees at its Alumacraft facility in Saint Peter, Minn.

According to reporting by WiscNews, the layoffs were attributed to “persisting adverse market and economic conditions.”

BRP’s Emilie Proulx said the company implemented the layoffs after a decision to reduce production volumes.

“As part of our latest financial results, we announced that we were proactively adjusting our production volumes and deliveries for the coming quarters in the context of softening consumer demand in the current macroeconomic environment,” she said. “As such, and given the overall boat industry slow-down with high levels of dealer inventory, we had to reduce our production in our Sturtevant facility.”

The layoffs, which included new and low-hour employees, are permanent, and the 298 employees received pay in place of notice, according to the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification provided to the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development, according to WiscNews.
