The National Marine Electronics Association extended its international reach as an active participant at METS, the world’s largest marine-equipment trade exposition.
At the Nov. 16-18 show in Amsterdam, the NMEA conducted an all-day ConnectFest demonstration and educational presentations on NMEA 2000, AIS and satellite communications. ConnectFest is a live demonstration of equipment from manufacturers operating compatibly on an NMEA 2000 network cable, commonly called a backbone.
NMEA 2000 is a protocol developed by the marine electronics industry that allows networked devices to communicate seamlessly with one another.
“NMEA had a very strong presence at METS this year,” association president David Hayden said in a statement. “Not only did the great location of the NMEA stand give us the opportunity to talk to a wide variety of people about NMEA 2000 and the training we offer, but the all-day ConnectFest and presentations by technical director Steve Spitzer and technical consultant Dave Morschhauser on NMEA 2000, AIS, and satellite communications drew interested crowds.”
