Safe Harbor Marinas acquired the Savannah Yacht Center, a superyacht storage and service facility in Savannah, Ga. The transaction included securities in Safe Harbor’s parent company, Sun Communities.

“The world’s largest vessels have historically been forced to cross the Atlantic for certain services. This facility allows us to serve them with excellence here in the United States and inside the Safe Harbor network,” Safe Harbor CEO Baxter Underwood said in a statement.

Savannah Yacht Center has a 459-foot graving dock, a 3,240-ton lift and more than 1,200 feet of floating docks that can accommodate eight 260-foot superyachts.

“We’re always searching for better ways to serve the superyacht builders, OEMs, owners, captains and crews,” Tim Sargent, Safe Harbor executive vice president of international operations, said in the statement. “Savannah allows us to do exactly that.”

The facility is expected to remain in operation during the change in ownership, and the 50 current employees will remain in place.
