Pure Fishing yesterday announced its acquisition of Svendsen Sport, a European supplier of fishing tackle headquartered near Copenhagen, Denmark. Terms of the sale were not disclosed.
The transaction is Pure Fishing’s fourth acquisition in three years under the ownership of private equity firm Sycamore Partners. Pure Fishing obtains such brands as Savage Gear, Prologic, MadCat, WaterWolf and DAM, and will add more than 180 people to its staff in Europe.
“The sport of fishing continues to see strong growth around the world, and the acquisition of a company with a proven track record of innovation and brand-building gives us complementary capabilities to position our business for continued success as a global leader in fishing,” Pure Fishing CEO Harlan Kent said in a statement.

Pure Fishing’s brands include Abu Garcia, All Star, Berkley, Fenwick, Fin-Nor, Frabill, Greys, Hardy, Hodgman, Hooker Reels, Johnson, JRC, Mitchell, Penn, Pflueger, Plano, Sebile, Shakespeare, SpiderWire, Stren, Ugly Stik and Van Staal.
“We are especially excited about the opportunity to join with Pure Fishing and make use of the resources they bring, which will enable us to continue the momentum we have in our business,” Svendsen Sport CEO Hans Maasbøl said in the statement. “We also appreciate that they hold customer service in the same high regard as we do.”
