Volvo Penta announced details of its new D13 IPS hybrid propulsion system, which it aims to bring to market later this year. Aimed at the yacht segment, the new system combines propulsion, electric motors, batteries, energy management and controls into a single package.

“Our new Volvo Penta D13 IPS hybrid is a complete helm-to-propeller marine solution,” Hanna Ljungqvist, president of Volvo Penta’s marine business, said in a statement. “By delivering a fully integrated package with one point of responsibility, we simplify everything from design and installation to operation and service while elevating on-board comfort and performance.”

The D13 IPS hybrid is compatible for use with HVO100, a renewable paraffinic fuel that can reduce emissions up to 90% compared with conventional diesel. The system also has an aftertreatment system that complies with IMO Tier III, the toughest emission standards.
