NMMA Canada brought together federal officials and boating industry leaders in Ottawa last week to discuss propulsion decarbonization and the future of marine fuels in Canada. The session was led by NMMA vice president of environmental compliance and marine technology Jeff Wasil and focused on how fuels and emerging propulsion technologies can support emissions reductions in boating.
“NMMA Canada will continue engaging federal partners as policymakers explore emissions-reduction pathways that support environmental objectives while preserving affordability, consumer choice and access to recreational boating,” the association said in a statement.
The meeting built on discussions held during NMMA Canada’s 2024 Day on the Hill and included representatives from Transport Canada, Environment and Climate Change Canada and NMMA, along with engine manufacturers Mercury, Yamaha, Suzuki, Volvo Penta and Pleasurecraft.
The discussion reinforced the importance of collaboration between government and industry to ensure future policies are practical, evidence-based and reflective of how Canadians use boats, NMMA said in the statement.
