Sail America, the trade association for the U.S. sailing industry, elected two new members to its 2016 board of directors — Chris Doscher of Beneteau America and Kevin Murphy of the National Marine Manufacturers Association.
Doscher and Murphy will join Sail America president Scot West of Ronstan and treasurer Jeff Johnstone of JBoats.
They join these existing board members: association vice president Erin Schanen, of Sailing Magazine; show vice president Greg Emerson, of Marlow-Hunter LLC; marketing vice president Jay Stockmann, of Vetus Maxwell; past president Stanton Murray, of Murray Yacht Sales; Kevin Coughlin, of New England Ropes; Jack Gierhart, of US Sailing; Lou Sandoval, of Karma Yacht Sales; Reagan Haynes, of Soundings Trade Only; Jim Abel, of West Marine; Mark Pillsbury, of Cruising World; Bob Ross, of Sail Northwest; and Kimo Worthington, of North Sails.
Doscher grew up sailing on Barnegat Bay along the New Jersey coast. He campaigned for the 1980, 1984, 1988 and 1992 Olympics in the 470 class. He has since owned, sailed, raced and campaigned on high-performance sailing yachts such as the Mumm 30 and Farr 40.
Doscher has won several races, including the Southern Ocean Racing Circuit. Beneteau recently hired him as sailboat sales manager for North America.
Kevin Murphy is a husband and father of three and has spent more than 20 years as a show manager with the NMMA. Before he worked for the NMMA, he received a business management degree at Allegheny Community College and Florida Atlantic University. He earned a series 7 and 63 license and was an investment broker associate at Stuart James Investment Co.
