Australian builder McConaghy Boats named Newport, R.I., pro sailor Collin Leon as the exclusive dealer for the MC 31 in the United States.
The company said Leon will represent McConaghy USA, with a particular focus on the U.S. raceboat market.
McConaghy said the MC31 production schedule “is in full force” and boats are scheduled to be in the United States in time for summer racing.
“At McConaghy Boats we have been building race-winning yachts for North American customers for over 25 years,” McConaghy Boats managing director Jono Morris said in a statement. “We have developed a very close relationship with so many of our U.S.-based customers and crews over the years, but until now we have not had any representative or on-the-ground support for McConaghy products.”
By taking this step, we are looking to strengthen our ties with the U.S. into the future and establish a solid foundation for a strong U.S.-based team supporting our product,” Morris said. “Collin is a great guy and is very professional to work with; he understands our boats and our product in intimate detail. His energy, enthusiasm and passion for our boats and our sport is contagious. We are very pleased to be welcoming him to our team.”
