The Northwest Marine Trade Association announced that the application period for its Grow Boating grant program is open, again offering 10 $1,000 grants to Pacific Northwest organizations that help get people on the water. Grants will be announced in December, and funds will be distributed to grantees next spring.

The grants are awarded in three categories: Discover Boating, Youth Boating and Education.

“Our mission is to grow boating in the Northwest,” NMTA director of communications Karsten McIntosh told Trade Only Today. “We are once again excited to be offering these grants to support that mission and get more boaters on the water and current boaters to use their boats more often.”

Since its inception in 2003, NMTA has invested more than $2 million in promoting boating in the Pacific Northwest. Funding for its Grow Boating program is generated through a surcharge on rented square footage at the Seattle Boat Show, which is held in January.

Last year, NMTA’s Grow Boating committee awarded $15,500 in grants to 14 organizations dedicated to improving boating access and experiences in the Pacific Northwest. The grants enable programs that reach underserved communities, support adaptive and youth boating initiatives, and improve critical infrastructure.

The application period closes Oct. 31. More information about the grant program, types of programs funded, and the application can be found here.
