The American Boat & Yacht Council is participating in and judging student marine service technology competitions at the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference June 19-23 in Atlanta, Ga. The annual event recognizes the nation’s career and technical education students with more than 110 competitions and 10,000 participants.
“We are thrilled to once again be a part of this exciting event to honor the achievements of aspiring trade professionals,” David Broadbent, ABYC education director, said in a statement. “By exhibiting and judging, ABYC aims to showcase the marine industry and highlight the fantastic career opportunities it offers.”
Scheduled for June 22, the marine service technology competition includes individual skill stations and a written or online test. The hands-on test stations have two- and four-stroke outboards, and sterndrive and inboard troubleshooting and repair. ABYC also developed a station to test electrical knowledge. Additionally, participants must correctly wire a bilge pump and demonstrate their understanding of ABYC standards for wiring.
