The American Boat and Yacht Council this week held its annual meeting virtually and named Robert Newsome (NMMA), Leon MacCorkle (Padebco Boatyard and Custom Builders) and Phil Estes (Horizon Holdings) to the board of directors.

Capt. Troy Glendye, chief of the Coast Guard Office of Auxiliary and Boating Safety, was keynote speaker.

“I am very excited to work with our 2022 leadership team and our new members in particular,” ABYC president John Adey said in a statement. “Leon, Rob and Phil all bring much-needed skills to our board, and we are looking forward to their input.”

ABYC also handed out several awards during the meeting.

The Lifetime Service Award was presented to Erik Skaggs. Menno Ligterink was recognized with the Horizon Award for participation on committees and boards that benefit ABYC. And Yasmin Kolodziechuk was given the Bolling Fortson Douglas Memorial Award, which recognizes female ABYC members who are dedicated to the marine industry and the advancement of safety, education and standards.

“We really enjoy the opportunity to recognize those that have made an impact both with ABYC and the industry,” Adey said. “We do not give out these awards easily; Eric, Menno and Yasmin have truly been involved and huge contributors to keeping boating safe, reliable and enjoyable.”
