The Landing School has chosen American Boat and Yacht Council president John Adey as its 2013 commencement keynote speaker.
The Landing School’s graduation will be held June 15 and in addition to Adey’s speech it will feature events that include a christening of the fleet, school tours and the presentation of diplomas and associate’s degrees.
Adey joined ABYC in 2002 after owning and operating a marine supply and fishing tackle business in New Jersey. He was also involved in marina management and brokerage services. An ABYC certified master technician, Adey is widely respected for far-reaching technical expertise in boat construction, as well as his ability to work with diverse interests in recreational boating.
Adey serves on a range of industry committees, including Underwriters Laboratories, the National Fire Protection Association, the National Marine Manufacturers Association, the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators and ISO’s Small Craft Technical Committee. He also writes “Ask the Experts” replies for BoatUS Magazine and is a frequent presenter at boating conferences.
“We are tremendously pleased that John has accepted our invitation to speak at The Landing School’s commencement,” Landing School president Bob DeColfmacker said in a statement. “John can speak to these students in a language that they understand with a focus on the skills, dedication and passion that is needed to be successful both in life and as professionals in the marine industry.”
“I’m really excited about the opportunity to talk with these students as they begin a new chapter of their lives,” Adey said in a statement. “I remember when I was new to this industry and so excited about all of the possibilities that awaited me. I share their passion for all things boating and hope that my experience can offer them some insight as to what they can accomplish in their own careers.”
