The American Boat and Yacht Council has launched the Marine Trades School Directory, a centralized, industry-specific tool designed to connect students, parents and professionals with marine training programs worldwide.
“We regularly receive calls from individuals looking for training programs, and now we have a centralized resource to guide them to the experience they want, whether that be a full college program or targeted industry training,” said Sarah Devlin, ABYC’s accreditation director, in a statement.
The online resource, available at the ABYC website, includes more than 30 schools and allows users to filter by program offerings, tuition range, certifications, prerequisites, and ABYC accreditation. The directory is part of a broader push to strengthen the pipeline of skilled marine technicians.
The directory was built using ABYC data along with contributions from BoatUS, the Massachusetts Marine Trades Association and Yamaha. ABYC is urging schools not currently listed to submit information via a free survey at teachboats.org. The organization plans to release a benchmark report with insights on student demographics, program costs, and enrollment trends. Participating schools will receive the report at no cost.
