Anglers Journal, a fishing quarterly operated by the Active Interest Media Marine Group, recently announced the appointment of Charlie Levine as editor-in-chief. Levine assumes the role from Bill Sisson, the magazine’s founding editor-in-chief.

Sisson will continue to contribute to Anglers Journal as editor-at-large but is moving to a reduced role after more than three decades as a marine journalist. Sisson has served at the helm of three AIM Marine Group titles: Soundings, Soundings Trade Only and Anglers Journal.

“This is my dream job,” said Levine, who for the last two years has held the position of executive editor of Power & Motoryacht, as well as senior writer for Anglers Journal. “I have some very big boots to fill, and I’m grateful that Bill is going to continue on with Anglers Journal as a contributor and mentor. I’m excited to build upon the foundation that Bill has set while bringing in some new voices and growing the brand.”

“Charlie is a great fit for Anglers Journal,” said Sisson, who is 68 and first worked with Levine on Soundings Trade Only more than 20 years ago. “I’m excited for the energy and experience he brings to the magazine. And I’m looking forward to continuing to write for Anglers Journal and contribute to the group.”

Levine is a lifelong angler who grew up around boats and fishing. He has worked for several boating and fishing titles and has penned hundreds of articles in his career as a marine journalist, which spans more than 20 years. He is a passionate angler who enjoys fishing for a range of gamefish, from largemouth bass to blue marlin.

Levine said he admires the rich storytelling that appears in Anglers Journal. “My hope is to keep that brand of storytelling alive while expanding into some new spaces, such as podcasts and video,” he said.

“I’m confident that Charlie will grow the Anglers Journal brand while also maintaining the qualities that made the magazine so popular from the start,” said Gary DeSanctis, AIM Marine Group president. “Bill and Charlie are friends and have known each other for a long time, so the transition has been seamless.”

Anglers Journal is an award-winning magazine heralded for its storytelling, stunning photography and beautiful layouts. The publication was created for that special band of enthusiasts who feel most alive when they are on the water with a fishing rod in their hands.
