Italian builder Arcadia has added 612 solar panels covering 12,917 square feet at two of its facilities on the Gulf of Sorrento. The company said in a statement that the solar panels will produce 250,000 kWh per year, or 70% of its energy requirement.
“Arcadia Yachts’ approach to the environment must consider every single aspect of our business,” CEO Ugo Pellegrino said in the statement. “This is why we have decided to speed up work on our production facilities as well, and why we continue to carry our research in this area. To minimize our impact on the world we live in, we want to apply all the skills and solutions already tried and tested in other industries to our own products and production processes as soon as possible.”
Arcadia said it builds yachts with a reduced carbon footprint through hull design and propulsion systems optimized to reduce consumption, along with the use of solar panels, openable windows and insulated glazing at its production facilities. The facilities cover 505,904 square feet and include two buildings and a marina.
