ePropulsion, working through its North American distributor Mack Boring & Parts Co., has supplied the electric outboard that powers the National Audubon Society’s first fully electric passenger boat, launched at Hog Island Audubon Camp in Bremen, Maine.
The refurbished pontoon is driven by a 20-kilowatt ePropulsion X20 outboard. The project was carried out in partnership with the National Audubon Society’s Seabird Institute and the Island Institute.
“It has been a pleasure working with Island Institute to help bring awareness of the capabilities of electric propulsion to the state of Maine, both in recreational and commercial applications,” Tom Watson, president of ePropulsion Americas, said in a press release. “We are grateful for this continued partnership with Island Institute and the trust of the National Audubon Society in allowing us to safeguard their guests and this fragile ecosystem.”
The boat transports people and supplies between the mainland, Hog Island and other coastal research operations from April through October. The X20 is part of ePropulsion’s X Series outboards, which also includes the X12 and X40.
Founded in 2012, ePropulsion produces a range of electric outboard and inboard propulsion systems for commercial and recreational applications.
