Baltic Yachts is expanding its Jakobstad, Finland, facility, adding a building that will more than double the size of the company’s headquarters. Its property in Bosund, Finland, where the company was founded 50 years ago, will close when the expansion is completed.
The 82,904-square-foot, three-story structure is being built alongside Baltic’s current manufacturing facility in Jakobstad. Many departments, including CNC operation, joinery, premounting, surface treatment and lamination, will be moved to the new factory to be positioned alongside the construction and assembly operations.
“This exciting development will improve efficiency by streamlining our yacht-building process, bring together the Baltic family and be a leading example of an eco-friendly industrial unit,” Baltic CEO Anders Kurtén said in a statement.
Baltic said the new building will connect to the existing facility and put its 205 employees in one place, improving efficiency and communication while speeding up the construction process. It also eliminates the 15½-mile trip between Jakobstad and Bosund.
The new factory has a large solar array and a recyclable bitumen roof covering. The beams that support the first and second floors are made from 90% recycled steel. The facility includes a host of other sustainability features, as well.
