OCUDRONE - STOCK.ADOBE.COM PHOTOMiami-Dade County and the South Florida Water Management District partnered to update a Biscayne Bay economic study initially undertaken in 2004-05.
The study concluded that Biscayne Bay-related recreation, including boating, sailing and fishing, in 2022 contributed $15.1 billion in output, $8.2 billion in income, 113,300 jobs and $2.3 billion in tax revenue to Miami-Dade County’s economy.
Overall contributions from Biscayne Bay-related activities, including commercial fishing and the Port of Miami, was $64 billion in economic output, $24 billion in income, 448,000 jobs and $4 billion in tax revenue.
The original study estimated the economic, commercial and recreational uses of Biscayne Bay and the Miami River. The update focused on various economic contributions from the bay. An estimated 119.8 million residents and visitors participated in recreational activities on Biscayne Bay in 2022.
