Vessel Assist of Ventura, Calif., was honored Sunday as Tower of the Year at the BoatUS Towing Services annual conference.

Vessel Assist Ventura — which is owned and operated by Capt. Paul Amaral and has a second location in Oxnard, Calif. — was recognized for a near-perfect 24-hour towing dispatch operation, superior customer service and satisfaction, and ongoing towing case management, and its work in the local boating community.

“Capt. Amaral earned consistently high marks for his positive working relationships with local government, boating community and our headquarters staff — all of which directly benefit our members,” BoatUS vice president and director of towing services Adam Wheeler said in a statement.

“Paul’s wealth of knowledge has been instrumental in working search-and-rescue cases,” Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles chief Dennise Were said.
