Swedish electric automaker Polestar will provide battery and charging systems for Candela’s hydrofoiling electric boats, Candela said in a statement this morning.
Candela founder and CEO Gustav Hasselskog said the agreement will bring automotive technology to the electric-boat segment and help his company scale production. The agreement also will help address the high unit cost of batteries, Candela said.
Candela’s hydrofoil system reduces energy usage by 80 percent, the company said, extending the boats’ ranges.
