Caterpillar Marine added the Cat C32B Triple Turbo 2,433-mhp (2,400-bhp) high-performance diesel to its propulsion offerings. With a rated engine speed of 2,300 rpm, the power plant has the same core engine upgrades as the company’s C32B 2,025-mhp rating, with additional features and benefits.
Compared with the 2,025-mhp C32B , the new engine has an updated cooling system and a new sequential (three turbo) air system that the company said delivers faster response and better performance. Additional features include extended oil change intervals, full MCS certification, including duplex filtration, and a cosmetic engine cover.
“We are extremely excited to build on our recent introduction of the C32B by bringing even more power density to the industry with our best-in-class V-12 engine,” Allen Bowman, Caterpillar Marine product strategy lead for C32, said in a statement. “The C32B Triple Turbo engine will be a difference-maker for the high-performance marine segment, both in power and performance.”
Designed with repowers in mind, the C32B complies with EPA Tier 3 recreational and IMO II emissions regulations, and is a fully integrated SCR solution for IMO III.
