X Shore, the Sweden-based builder of the electric Eelex 8000, opened a North American sales office in Newport, R.I., at the Safe Harbor Newport Shipyard, the company said in a statement.

“The boating traffic and visibility here is first-class, and with our office being officially open, we are excited to welcome guests to learn more about X Shore and to offer sea trials to those who are interested in the Eelex 8000,” said North American head of sales Patrick DeSocio.

X Shore said its Sarasota, Fla., location will be used as a logistics base to continue supporting the sales team covering Florida-based events.

The Eelex 8000 is set to debut this week at the Newport International Boat Show in Rhode Island. It has a 225-kW Brusa electric motor and twin lithium-ion Kriesel batteries that can charge in a five- to eight-hour span, or in less than two hours with a supercharger. It has a reported top speed of 35 knots, modular furniture and cork decks.
