Echandia, a Sweden-based maker of maritime battery systems, announced the appointment of James Maitland as sales director for North America. Previously, Maitland was Pacific Northwest territory manager for West Marine Pro.
“We are fortunate to have James join our team,” Trevor Small, who is leading Echandia’s U.S. expansion, said in a statement. “His experience and connections will be invaluable as we work to position Echandia as a leader in maritime electrification in North America, a market poised to surpass Europe in the coming years.”
Echandia opened a U.S. production facility in Marysville, Wash., in January. Production is scheduled to begin this spring, with flagship projects that include San Francisco Bay Ferries. The company also announced this week that it had received an additional funding round of $20.5 million to continue to expand operations.
