Nominations are now being accepted for The Gustave Trouvé Awards for Excellence in Electric Boats and Boating.

The “Gussies” were started last year by Plugboats, a website dedicated to e-propulsion. Last year’s awards highlighted 50 boats from 19 countries, with more than 10,000 people placing nominations.

The awards honor French inventor Gustave Trouvé, credited with inventing an electric motor adapted for use on the water, and “were created to recognize the inventors, designers, manufacturers, entrepreneurs and visionaries who are making advances every day to develop clean, quiet, zero emission technologies and designs to reduce reliance on fossil fuel for marine propulsion,” awards founder and editor/publisher of Plugboats Jeff Butler said in a statement.

Nominations for the second year of the awards are in four categories:

• Electric Boats Under 8 meters/26 feet

• Electric Boats Over 8 meters /26 feet

• Electric Boats Designed for Paying Passengers

• Customized / DIY Electric Boats
