Correct Craft announced yesterday the passing of former CEO Walter N. Meloon at the age of 87. The grandson of Correct Craft’s founder, Meloon — a Wakeboarding Hall of Fame member — served in the family boat business for 52 years, including 18 years as president and CEO.

Under Meloon’s leadership, Correct Craft became a market leader in innovation. He contributed to the development of the wakeboard tower and played an integral role in the Ski Nautique Paragon project, which set a new standard for towboats. His legacy reflects his dedication to the ethics and principles established by the Meloon family in 1925, when Correct Craft was founded. Meloon stayed true to the tradition established by his grandfather of “Building Boats to the Glory of God.”

“Not long ago, I had the opportunity to spend an afternoon with Walt at his house and, as I have done many times, thanked him for the foundation he helped lay upon which our team has grown Correct Craft,” Correct Craft CEO Bill Yeargin said in a statement. “We deeply appreciate the work Walt did leading our company for many years.”

Meloon was also a prominent figure in his Pine Castle, Fla., community, where he served as captain of the Pine Castle Volunteer Fire Department.
