In the late 1960s, Jerry Pressman took a small Connecticut business and grew it into a major distributor servicing the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic and employed hundreds.

Pressman, who owned Kellogg Marine Supply for 38 years, died Aug. 31. He was 84.

In a statement, the family said Pressman served in the U.S. Navy from 1961 to 1963. He was an avid boater and enjoyed spending time on Long Island Sound with his family. He was also a philanthropist involved with charities that include Congregation B’nai Israel, the Jewish Home for the Elderly and Operation Hope, an organization that aims to end hunger and homelessness.

Based in Old Lyme, Conn., Kellogg Marine Supply is a wholesale provider of boating equipment, from accessories and paint to electronics and engines.
