Highfield Boats announced an expansion of its manufacturing capabilities in Michigan that’s expected to generate more than $3.1 million in capital investment and create 110 new jobs with an average hourly wage of $24, plus benefits — $3.38 per hour higher than the regional media wage. The investment comes with the support of a $990,000 Michigan Business Development Program grant from the Michigan Strategic Fund.
“Our investment in Michigan marks the company’s first major investment to the U.S. market, and we chose Cadillac for its rich legacy in recreational boatbuilding and the unwavering support of both the local and statewide communities,” Highfield USA president Christophe Lavigne said in a statement.
“Thanks to the strong support of local officials and the community, this project officially launched just over a year ago,” he added. “Since the inception of this project, Highfield USA has directly hired 13 local employees and invested in key areas, including design, engineering, tooling and mold-making — all of which are being executed locally.”
The company said the U.S. market has become one of its largest segments and represents the biggest growth potential. The new facility will be a hull and assembly operation. When at full capacity, it will employ 75 hourly employees, including welders, fiberglass specialists, PNC operators, painters, engine installers and electricians, as well as 35 salaried positions.
