Hurricane Milton, the 13th named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season, overnight strengthened significantly to a Category 4 storm with 155-mph sustained winds. Current modeling suggests the hurricane will make landfall on Florida’s west coast between Tampa and Naples on Wednesday.
Milton at 7 a.m. (ET) this morning was in the Gulf of Mexico west-northwest of the Yucatan Peninsula and headed east-southeast at 8 mph. Hurricane and tropical storm watches are up from the Keys through the Florida Panhandle.
The storm is expected to turn north and east Tuesday as it approaches landfall. Storm tracks and intensity are regularly updated by the National Hurricane Center.
A good portion of the state’s Gulf coast is still cleaning up from Hurricane Helene, compounding preparation efforts.
