Mercury Marine introduced new 25- and 30-hp outboards that the company said are lighter, faster, and easier to operate and maintain than other engines in their class.
The outboards have a 3-cylinder, 500cc powerhead with electronic fuel injection. A new digital package comes standard with the electric-start models, allowing boaters to connect with gauges and mobile devices, parent Brunswick Corp. said in a statement yesterday.
At 132 pounds, the outboards are 16 percent lighter than the previous generation and offer class-leading fuel economy, the statement said. The engines come in FourStroke, SeaPro and ProKicker models.
“Mercury’s new 25- and 30-hp platform brings new capabilities and a better consumer experience to a wide variety of recreational and commercial boats,” said Mercury Marine president Chris Drees. “In addition to being lighter, faster and quieter, the new engines in this lineup deliver what boaters have asked for, with exciting new options like digital technologies and an ergonomically positioned tiller handle.”
